"I don't have an opinion about Jews one way or the other.There are lots of good ones around, all over the hospital and the university.Good families, good students, some of them even are in my sailing club now.
My father-in-law, in Czernowitz and in Krakow, even spoke Yiddish, their language, and had many patients from that tribe, and got paid very well.Jews are different in the East and stay different, even after they get here to Germany. The Jews from Germany – I say the "German Jews" actually - you barely notice them….Except, I just don't know why they need to trumpet their religion around with the little caps – at least some of them. It's annoying, that's what it is.It's like an exclamation: Here we are! Notice us! We are different from you! Is that necessary? It riles people up. Does their God want that? I thought we have the same god. We don't run around with crosses around our necks.For me, it's not a big deal. But it's not smart and you have to be smart these days.
What bothers me more is the unnatural and amoral stuff that is called art now.You can't avoid seeing it everywhere. And there are Jews in that.Not the ones we know, of course.And not in Kiel, but in Berlin, in Frankfurt, in Vienna. And the twelve-tone music.Why don't we just stick with what we got – Wagner, Brahms, Beethoven – what more do we need? Again, the Jews right in there. I am not sure whether they are really patriotic as we are, maybe they are more international.
I am much more worried that we are going to become Bolshevist. That would really be the end.Have you heard what's going on in Russia, all academics are fired, landowners killed, properties taken away.We had a revolution in Kiel not long ago (1917-18), we saw how that was going to go.Or did you ever read what the Paris so-called "commune" did, burn down the beautiful palace, burn down city hall, burn down the museum, ransack the churches. We must not let that happen.Who will do that?
Also, we do not want to become like the Americans, all materialistic, only money, money, money.We need to defend the German culture, the European traditions, the Greek and Roman philosophy.Otherwise, this is all going for the dogs. And the riots in the street.All this arguing and partisanship. I wish we could go back to our Germany before the great war. But the old royals are no more, they ran away and showed no spine.We just need to watch our morals, respect, and discipline. I really don't know what to do, how to get through this difficult time. In the long run the new inventions that we have, in medicine, chemistry, and physics -they are phantastic and science will solve so many of our problems. But until then?"

"I don't have a problem with the Jews, I really don't.There were Jews in Navy, even some officers.There may be some right now.I have not asked around.This Max Haller guy, he is one of them, with this submarine UC 22.I met him when he practiced here in Kiel, going out into the Baltic. Lots of medals – he got.He is an exception.
But anyway, it's not the Jews that are the problem.They are just the enablers.They are letting the hordes in, the Bolshevists and the Slavs, from Poland, from Bukowina, Galicia, White Russia.Do they all know each other? I remember from home in Pomerania.The Jews and the Poles did not get along. But then when they come here, they always bring dozens and dozens of more in from the East, always more. Do they all know each other?
We have to stop that. We should send them back.The Poles have taken already so much from us, the best parts of Silesia, West-Prussia. Half of the Kolbe estates are already gone, burnt down probably.They are not going to stop there – those people don't know what to do with a good piece of land.Look at the communists over there?Look, what they have done where they are in charge, just compare!Look at Russia, at White Russia, at Ukraine ! The breadbasket of Europe, now they are starving there.The communists and the bankers are our biggest problems, and the Poles.Why don't the Brits help us? They have the same problem – they don't like the Jews, the French not either.No one likes them. And both don't like the Communists either.But everybody is pointing their finger at us, they want us to do the fighting. So then they can swoop in and take over.We need to watch out.
The Jews and the Socialists are softening us up.They might not really want that… But they do.
I know my boys will stand up to that. In a few years they will be old enough. We will defend our fatherland and take back what was stolen.
But we need to get our house in order first. Without discipline on board the ship, you cannot go through the storm.Without discipline in the country, we cannot do what we need to do.
