Immigrant Rights
Townsquare for Democracy supports people who are seeking a better life for their families. We recognize the shared values, such as freedom, family, or love, and uplift the courage and tenacity of people who move to the United States. We value the connections immigrants have to our communities; they are integral members of our churches, our schools, our neighborhoods and our families.
Protecting our Neighbors, Co-workers, and Friends
A vision of a beautiful tomorrow that includes safety, justice and prosperity for all
Certain politicians use immigrants as a catch-all villain for our problems, trying to get us to point the finger at whomever they deem “other” instead of coming together to implement real solutions. These leaders are causing the problems we are facing - politicians who use racial scapegoating to seize and preserve power and sow division among us.
Our ability to bridge the gap between “me” and someone else through feeling our common humanity—empathy—can be a transformative power that makes collective action possible, transcending difference and building democratic strength.
Empathy is foundational to human rights and pluralism. When it is delegitimized, as MAGA mouthpieces have labored to do, exclusion and cruelty become easier to justify. In truth, empathy can be difficult to practice across meaningful differences, because it requires taking someone else's views seriously. So we'll prepare to try! Join us for a discussion of empathy as part of your democratic toolkit.
