Ballot Curing Begins Before Election Day and Continues Afterward

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, but election officials are already reviewing returned mail ballots. Missing or mismatched signatures can prevent otherwise eligible ballots from being counted unless voters complete a correction process. Ballot curing begins as problems are identified and can continue after Election Day.

Virtual ballot-curing phone banks — training provided

VoPro Pros is organizing online two-hour phone-bank shifts from October 27 through November 12. Training, calling scripts and live Zoom support are provided at the beginning of shifts. No previous experience is required. Volunteers contact voters about correcting ballots, subject to each state’s rules and deadlines.

The organizer describes outreach to likely Democratic voters in Georgia, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio and potentially other states. This is a partisan-targeted phone bank, not the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline.

California voters: signature correction deadlines

In California, the deadline to submit a missing- or mismatched-signature correction for the November 3 election is November 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Procedures vary by county. Visit the California Secretary of State for instructions:

Voters who need assistance can call the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) or the California Secretary of State at 800-345-VOTE (800-345-8683). These are assistance numbers, not volunteer sign-up numbers.
